The 2021 Checking For Charity saw major changes in our format which led to a successful event!!!

We were unable to host fans at Troubh Ice Arena, but thanks to work and skill of Bill David (www.twelvenorthagency.com) the game was live-streamed to the world! We were also privileged to have Michael Keeley (the voice of the Maine Mariners) and Jeff Mannix (the voice of the University of Maine Men's Hockey) call all three of the games!

The primary beneficiary of the 2021 Checking For Charity was the Travis Roy Foundation. The passing of Travis in October of 2020 made this event all the more important to all those involved. We were honored to have Travis's father Lee in attendance and he shared many thoughts and memories of Travis with the teams.

The South Portland High School Alumni Challenge saw former Red Riot hockey players square off for another year of bragging rights. Although the game was a fairly  even affair, the West Team made the most of their chances and defeated the East Team 8-3.

The Firefighter Classic was arguably the closest (and slowest) contest of the afternoon. Firefighters from South Portland were joined by firefighters from the surrounding communities. The game was a battle from the first puck drop. Team Ladder Company was able to fend of a furious final minute of play from Team Engine Company to earn an exciting 4-3 victory,

The Former Pro Showdown is always the marquee matchup of the day and the skill level did not disappoint! A fast paced game saw Team South jump out of the gate with two quick goals before Team North was able to tie it. Then Team South combined a stout defense with opportunistic offense to build a seven goal lead! The teams traded goals the rest of the way as Team South finished with a 12-5 win! Team South was led by John Laliberte's (Boston Univ, AHL) 4 goals!
